Gas Fireplace Won’t Light — What to Do
A gas fireplace that clicks, won’t ignite, or keeps losing the pilot is usually a repair — not always a full replacement. We diagnose on site and write the estimate before work.
Text a photo of the fireplace to (916) 450-1268 — we usually reply within 15 minutes. Common causes are a dirty or out pilot, a failed igniter, a wall switch or remote that is not calling for flame, or a gas-valve / safety lockout. If you smell gas, leave and call 911 or the gas company first.
Why an apartment gas fireplace won’t light
On LA condo and apartment jobs we most often find:
- Pilot out, dirty, or the thermocouple / flame sensor is weak
- Igniter clicks but never fires
- Wall switch, remote, or millivolt control not calling for flame
- Gas valve or safety lockout after a failed start
A clear photo of the fireplace and the switch or remote helps us prep before the visit. This is not the same as a Williams-style wall heater that won’t light — send a photo if you are not sure which you have.

When it is an emergency
If you smell gas, hear hissing, or a carbon monoxide alarm is on, get everyone out and call 911 or the gas company. Do not keep trying to light the fireplace. After it is safe, see gas smell or CO at a heater or fireplace.
